đ Welcome to From Amma's Kitchen
7/18/2026
Food has always been the language of love in our family.
Three generations connected by love, tradition, and the joy of sharing food. This collection is dedicated to the incredible women who taught me that the best recipes are made with patience, care, and love.
Over the last 33 years, I've slowly learned these recipesânot from cookbooks, but from both my amma(s). Every visit home, every phone call across continents, every holiday, and every family gathering became an opportunity to learn one more recipe.
I watched.
I asked questions.
I made mistakes.
I tried again.
Sometimes I'd call Amma halfway through cooking just to ask, "Does this look right?" or "How much of this should I add?" The answer was almost always, "Just enough!"âwhich meant learning through experience, just as she did.
Whenever either of our parents visited us, I'd spend time in the kitchen watching them prepare our family favorites. When I visited India, I never missed the chance to stand beside them, notebook in hand, absorbing not just the ingredients but the little techniques that make homemade food so special.
Over time, these recipes became more than instructionsâthey became memories.
Many of them are the dishes my family asks for again and again. The recipes my husband Sivakumar enjoys. The comfort foods Amrutha and Varun grew up with and still request whenever we're together. They're the flavors that remind us of home, no matter where in the world we are.
Today, I'm sharing these recipes not because I'm a professional chef, but because I want to preserve them.
For my children.
For future generations.
For friends and family.
And for anyone who believes that the best recipes are the ones lovingly passed from one kitchen to another.
Each recipe you'll find here has been cooked, tasted, adjusted, and enjoyed many times in our home. Along with every recipe, I'll also share the little tips, stories, and lessons that my family taught me over the yearsâthe small details that never make it into traditional recipe books.
I hope these recipes bring the same warmth, comfort, and joy to your table that they've brought to ours.

Preserving family recipes, one memory at a time.
