Just beautiful places within easy driving distance where we could slow down and enjoy Colorado.

1. Pine Valley Ranch Park ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Drive: ~1 hour from Castle Pines
Why we loved it
This was the place that started our Colorado weekend adventures.
Walking through tall pine trees beside rushing water, having a packed lunch overlooking the creek, and simply sitting on a bench listening to nature reminded us that the simplest outings are often the most memorable.

2. Evergreen Lake ⭐⭐⭐⭐½
A classic Colorado destination.
The flat trail around the lake makes it ideal for all ages, and downtown Evergreen is perfect for coffee or lunch afterward.
We arrived early, walked the lake before it became busy, and spent the morning enjoying mountain reflections on the water.

3. Clear Creek Trail – Golden ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
One of the biggest surprises.
The creek runs beside the trail almost the entire way, creating one of the most relaxing walks we've done.
Afterward we enjoyed lunch in Golden before heading home.

4. Creede & Rio Grande Reservoir ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This became our favorite Colorado weekend.
Highlights included:
- North Clear Creek Falls
- Rio Grande Reservoir

- Last Chance Silver Mine
- Silver Thread Scenic Byway
Our favorite memory was the North Clear Creek Falls Overlook.
Eating our packed lunch overlooking Rio Grande Reservoir with mountains reflected in the water.
Sometimes that's all you need.
5. Roxborough State Park – Fountain Valley Trail ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was completely different from every other trip.
Instead of lakes and rivers, we were surrounded by towering red rock formations.
We left home at 7:00 AM, which turned out to be the perfect decision.
The trail was cool, quiet, and peaceful before the summer heat arrived.
The Fountain Valley Trail is ideal for anyone wanting dramatic scenery without an overly difficult hike.
